As we have stopped using the attenuator option in these DACs (low setting) due to the poor sound quality it creates, we convert this option to a useful Balanced XLR output ground lift (galvanic isolator) similar to what the newer MK2 offers however with this option, you can utilize the remote control to switch between grounded and lift from your listening position. (The Filter button on the remote) You can truly notice the enhancement when switching it on and off. Grounded is shown on the display screen with an L next to the volume indicator.
Nearly all preamps sound better when the XLR ground is lifted.
Ground loops significantly contribute to noise and jitter in these DACs. We quickly perceive a broader, more expansive sound stage when the ground is elevated, particularly when combined with our transformers and enhancements.
This lifted ground works on most preamps as long as it doesn't use an opamp for it's inputs. We always recomend using a high quality preamp.
